MORGANTON Margaret Elaine Crowe, 70, of Morganton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Born Dec. 17, 1946, in Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Deater Dallas Carpenter and Mildred Lee Singleton Carpenter. Mrs. Crowe retired from Baker Furniture after many years as a loyal employee. She was a member of Poarch Chapel Missionary Methodist Church. Elaine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to garden, but most of all she enjoyed cooking special meals for her family and her church family. Elaine loved her three canine friends, Bonnie, Maxie and Peanut. Mrs. Crowe is survived by her son, Dennis Crowe and fiancée, Linda Smith; grandchildren, Hannah Smith and friend, Wesley, Savannah Smith Alley and husband, John, and Devin Smith; great-grandson, Braxton Alley; sister, Donna Carpenter Patton and husband, Paul; and a number of nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by husband, Edward Crowe; and brother, Kenneth Ray Carpenter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, at Poarch Chapel Missionary Methodist Church, with Pastor Wallace Smith officiating. The burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence of Donna and Paul Patton. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
