July 7, 1980 -- Kay Kincaid Mitchell, 33 died Monday at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro following an illness of four years.
A native of Morganton, Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Salem High School in 1965 and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in clothing and business administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She was employed as executive vice president by Bates Nightwear of Greensboro.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Joe Mitchell of the home, 5 Kempton Drive, Greensboro; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Kincaid of Morganton; two sisters, Mrs. Anne Faladino of Lawrenceville, N.J. and Mrs. Penny Carswell of Morganton and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:a.m. Wednesday at West Market Methodist Church in Greensboro, with the Revs. Charles Shannon and Earl Gibson officiating.
Graveside services will be held in Morganton at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Home Baptist Church, with the pastor, Jerry Gamble, officiating.
The body will remain at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home on North Elm Street, Greensboro, where the family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p.m.

Kay and I were in Mrs. Stroupe's class in first grade. We wrote a story on the big chart about her baby sister being born. She was always very cute and considerate. She may have had a short life (1980) but probably did more than most by her professional accomplishments and marrying Bobby whom she loved so much. There also sadness including losing their child. She was a very special person whom I feel sure is still remembered fondly by all.

Kay and I were very good friends in school and we had some good times together.

Kay Kincaid Mitchell was my neighbor and best friend. We cried and laughed together, went to church together, I'll never forget our Easter hats and our first high heels! I will never forget Kay and think of her often, even today.
